Our story

Body Reflects was founded in 2014 by Carlie Jae Bae in Seattle, WA.

Carlie found yoga in her teens. It made her feel empowered and strong and graceful in ways that she hadn't had access to before. As she started a journey into healthcare as a massage therapist in 2005, she was not allowed to prescribe movement - although she knew it could help her clients as much as it had helped her negotiate injury, stress and anxiety.

After some searching, Carlie met Catherine Munro in 2012 and was introduced to a method of yoga that was more careful AND challenging than what was popular in the gyms and big studios in Seattle. That’s when she decided she needed to share classes that touch on more than the physical "doing" and truly integrate the limbs of yoga into a practice that is accessible and realistic for all of us in this modern world.

Outside of yoga, Carlie spends a lot of time outdoors skiing, paddle boarding, hiking, and more, often accompanied by her husky, Nook. She is a dedicated mom, finding time to support her business and family in equal measure.

Besides her commitment to the wellness of her massage clients, and the practice of teaching, Emily Rose is also our Studio Flow Assistant Director.

As Studio Flow Assistant Director, Emily focuses on communication with clients and students, as well as teachers and massage therapists on staff.  She is present at the studio to support routine needs and administrative tasks that help the studio run smoothly on a daily basis.

Working with Carlie, Catherine Munro (EYRT) continues to teach Yoga Teacher Training at Body Reflects.

Catherine began practicing yoga in 1989 while living in New York City. She spent several years exploring different yoga traditions with many master teachers, notably in the Iyengar tradition. Her exploration led to her passion for the Ashtanga practice, which she learned under the guidance of senior teachers Chuck Miller and Maty Ezraty. She has also studied with Ashtanga guru Sri. K. Patthabhi Jois in Mysore, India.

Catherine completed her training at Yoga Works in Santa Monica, California, by the program creators Maty Ezraty and Lisa Walford. After teaching for Yoga Works for several years she began leading Teacher Trainings for the company in 2003. She continues to lead the Yoga Works teacher training program at studios internationally.

Catherine’s vinyasa based classes focus on physical alignment, intelligent sequencing, and are infused with passion and inspiration for the practice of yoga. Catherine combines a tough-minded approach with genuine compassion and caring for the individual student. Her hope is that through the practice, students can learn to transition through some of life’s challenges with strength and introspection.

“Yoga is the cessation of the movements of the mind. Then there is abiding in the Seer’s own form.”
